Portrait Session in Hertfordshire – Photographer Harpenden

Take over nature by analogue

Nature has always attracted and fascinated photographers. Beautiful natural circumstances give great opportunities and allow you to create unique photos that will take your breath away. This time it was similar. A charming place full of fairy-tale magic, a divine female model with an innate charm and brilliant weather conditions- all this created the perfect conditions.

Enchant me as much as you can

The model in this session was the charming Ildika. This captivating, sweet Hungarian name gives additional character to the whole session. Together with my female model we met in Luton. Straight from Luton we went by car to Harpenden near St Albans. The whole journey took place in a moody atmosphere, which additionally prepared us and positively tuned for the upcoming photos.

When we got to Harpenden a fantastic place was waiting for us, which I chose and prepared for my client a week before this important event so that we would not waste time on the day of the session.

The whole session lasted 2.5 hours along with short breaks, during which we changed the location of each shot. The model had enough time to change clothes and take care of her impeccable appearance.

Fairy-tale, mysterious and special

Location is an extremely important and key element of every session. A randomly chosen park or meadow will not fully reflect the beauty and uniqueness of the model. I decided on a picturesque park located in Harpenden near St Albans. What particularly captivated me, but also my model, was the unusual atmosphere that this fantastic English neighborhood provided.

The whole park is kept in a mysterious and fairy-tale English atmosphere. Trees densely overgrown with intensely green ivy, a thrilling river and an old river dam full of history – full of happiness in a natural environment. This fabulous place was accompanied by extremely sunny weather, which allows you to enjoy the beauty of this special day without any obstacles.

Play with light and form

The fairy-tale surroundings of the English park in Harpenden create great conditions to create unique photos. The unusual beauty of my model combined with her natural charm and body awareness allowed for exceptional fun with form and light throughout the session. I took photos with an 85 mm / 1.8 lens, which adds plasticity to the shots. This effect was also possible due to the use of session location conditions. I worked out an unobvious and surprising game of light by using light that refracts in the river’s water current. In addition, periodically appearing clouds gave many photo shots an original shadow effect. And the surrounding tall trees overgrown with thick and dark green ivy provided an expressive background full of magical depth. Not without a reason, the model is wearing a bright, flimsy dress. The mist in which my model is clothed provides elegant frivolity and lightness to individual shots.

The old, stony river dam is an important part of the landscape of this session. We managed to get the perfect contrast, which makes it difficult to take your eyes off this photo.

In addition to the magic and mysterious elements of the park in Harpenden, I also made a very natural, full of life shot against the background of green meadows. Also, this time, the unique nature of the park landscape near St Albans favored me. The trunk of the tree, on which the long-term effects of weather conditions was reflected, gave my model a chance to show off. In this way I was able to take very casual and easy shots, and the model looks phenomenal. Countryside look complete the view with horses walking on the meadow.

I would not be myself if I did not mention once again the uniqueness of my model’s beauty, which completes each shot. I adapted the landscape and the rest of the surroundings to the model’s character and personality. Artistic tattoos that cover her body blend in perfectly with the lush vegetation of the park in Harpenden. My skilful eye did not escape the non-obvious tattoo curling on her leg. Trees enveloped by ivy  trees has become a kind of metaphor referring to this motif.

All the measures used resulted in a sharp model and blurred background thanks to the shallow depth of field.
